Stuck

stuck, trauma, emotional health, mental health, PTSD, emotional healing, brokenness, katina horton, poetry, poem

This poem was written to bring comfort to those individuals who deal with PTSD/trauma on a daily basis, and they feel like they’re in the “Stuck Aspect” of Trauma. Although we feel like we are trapped, we know that God’s presence is always there. It is a representation of the dialog between the trauma impacted individual and God himself.

Stuck

Stuck Inside.

Stuck Outside.

There’s No Place to Go.

“REST Inside.

And I Will

Keep You Close.”

Scripture Meditation

John 15: 1-11

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.

Stuck Inside Message of Hope

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

Little Whispers: Song in My Heart

Background on Song in My Heart

Have you ever woke up with a song in your head and your heart? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me on yesterday morning. It was a song that I hadn’t heard in years. It played over and over in my head until I had to play it on YouTube. I listened to it three times. I had my own praise and worship session with Jesus. God knows just what we need. It makes me feel special when God takes the time to show me in little whispers that he loves me.

Song in My Heart

Savior, You woke me this morning.

With a crown of adorning.

Music right from the start.

With a song in my heart.

And you played it all day.

In a special kind of way.

“Cast my cares upon you”.

For you’ll surely see me through.

Background on Surrender: We can’t control it all. We want to know the ending. We feel that we know what is best for us. We can’t understand why God has us waiting for so long. Tired and frustrated with the results of our doing? That’s usually when we give it to God.

Comfort of Worship

Let me hide in your shadow.

In your wings.

Quite unrattled.

Let me worship in your glory.

Till I make it my own story.

Let me feel your connection.

Through your spirit.

It’s protection.

When the storm seems too much,

Fill my cup.

Need your touch.

Bible Passage to Meditate On:

Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV)

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Background on Declaration: The last poem that I wrote was entitled, “Sin”, and it can be found here. Today’s poem, “Declaration”, makes one take time to think about events that occurred leading up to the death of Jesus, as he hung on the cross.

The transparency of the rain.

Of the struggles that it aims.

As one waits for the Son.

Be renewed by the One.

Who himself took on pain.

Blood of Christ filled with stains.

As the shadows drew so near.

Heard “It is finished”.

In their ears.

The Declaration: Bible Verses to Meditate On:

Matthew 27:45-50

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.  About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.” Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink.  The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

Or, let in the faithful friend?

Open the door and let me in.

Can we trust you with our trials?

Or our failures and our sin?

The last poem that I wrote is entitled Unfaithful, and that poem can be found here. Unfaithful

bride, unfaithful, trickster, poetry, poem, blogger, poet, blogger life, podcaster, author, Laban, Jacob, Rachel

The last poem that I wrote, Broken Pieces, can be found here. This poem describes the sad turn of events that occurred between Leah, Rachel, Uncle Laban, and Jacob. The conversation that takes place is between Leah and Laban, her dear old daddy. Rachel was noted as being beautiful, and Leah was not. This comparison trap led to Laban tricking Jacob into marrying Leah so that Leah wouldn’t have to be without a husband. It also meant that Laban didn’t keep his end of the deal as far as fair payment for Jacob.

Unfaithful

She is pretty.

I have weak eye.

Oh now, what will I do?

Don’t you worry!

In a hurry!

Just change clothes.

I’ll push you through.

Get him drunk as a skunk.

He will think you are dear Rachel.

I’m a pawn.

And at dawn,

He will see you’ve been unfaithful.

Bible Verses to Meditate On:

But when evening came, Laban took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob, and he slept with her.  And Laban gave his servant girlZilpah to his daughter Leah as her maidservant.   When morning came, there was Leah! “What have you done to me?” Jacob said to Laban. “Wasn’t it for Rachel that I served you? Why have you deceived me?”…

The last poem that I wrote was entitled “Faith Without Works”. You can find that poem here. Today’s poem, Broken Pieces, deals with the emotional process of deciding to enter the door of healing: the closed door represents survival mode, and open the opened door represents the door of thriving.

Broken Pieces

Broken Pieces, Broken Pieces

Yes, it’s what you’ve settled for.

There’s no thriving, just surviving.

Door of Healing gives you more.

Door of Healing, Door of Healing.

If I open, what is there?

There is Jesus.

In the fire.

And your pain.

So You’re Aware.

You’ll press in.

You will hurt.

Oh, but then you’ll go so far.

Just keep pressing.

It’s the lesson.

Set the bar.

Now it’s your blessing.
